ELEMENTAL MAGIC

Signs You’re Holding Other People’s Fire

Energetic Awareness for Witches, Healers, and Space Holders

There are times when the fire in your body doesn’t feel like your own.

You may feel irritated, overheated, or emotionally flooded. You might notice that something sharp or heavy entered your field after a conversation, a group gathering, or even just scrolling through your phone.

You didn’t ask for it. You didn’t invite it.
But now it’s here, and your body knows it.

This is what it feels like to carry someone else’s fire.

Fire is a powerful element. It moves quickly. It holds anger, grief, desire, urgency, passion, and intensity. It can spread fast, especially in sensitive or empathic bodies. You may absorb it without realizing it.

Here are a few signs you may be holding heat or pressure that doesn’t belong to you.

1. Sudden agitation, tightness, or emotional spikes

If you find yourself feeling emotionally charged without a clear reason, take a moment to check in. Ask your body what shifted. Did something enter the room? Did someone speak or text you? Did you read or watch something that carried emotional weight?

Heat that builds quickly in the belly, chest, or jaw often signals that energy has landed in your system and is looking for somewhere to go. Your fire may be responding to an external ignition.

You can pause and breathe into the sensation. You can ask, without judgment, “Is this mine?”

2. Feeling responsible for someone else's experience

This can look like trying to calm someone who is angry, holding tension in your body after a difficult conversation, or staying mentally stuck in someone else’s story long after the interaction has ended.

Sometimes we take on fire because we feel we’re supposed to fix, hold, or protect. The heat of that responsibility can live in the nervous system and begin to feel like our own stress.

It may feel familiar. It may even feel useful. But it is still worth noticing.

3. Trouble sleeping or resting after high-emotion spaces

If you’ve been in a group ritual, healing session, intense conversation, or family situation, and your body won’t settle afterward, you may be carrying more than your own energy.

This can feel like restlessness, a racing mind, vivid dreams, emotional release that doesn’t match your day, or fire in the hands and feet.

Holding other people’s fire often happens when boundaries were not clear or when you were deeply open in service. It’s not a failure. It’s information.

What to Do When You Notice It

This is not about shutting down or avoiding people’s emotions. It is about staying in right relationship with your own field.

Here are a few practices you can use when you recognize you’re holding fire that isn’t yours:

  • Hold your belly and say, “I return anything that is not mine to its source, with clarity and respect.”

  • Take a salt bath or shower with warm water and intention

  • Burn herbs like copal, rosemary, or cinnamon around your body

  • Shake your hands, move your hips, or exhale through sound

  • Light a candle and ask the fire to transmute what you cannot carry

You are not here to hold it all.
You are allowed to feel and release.
You are allowed to keep your fire for your own healing, joy, and transformation.

Fire is powerful. It will respond to your awareness.

When you notice what is yours and what is not, you make space to move with more freedom, more clarity, and more integrity in your magic.
